Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Guard Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the government to pause asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
