The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
