The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
