The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will initiate their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they attain the anticipated qualification for a competition hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions match since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the Three Lions for their opening fixture on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Demonstration

The tournament was unveiled at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the venue by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were held up with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The first match of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to families and help connect with a broader range of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena round out the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a championship for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its fervor and capacity to foster unity.”

In excess of three million admissions, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be released to supporters.
