The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
