Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
