American performer Pat Finn, who was seen in iconic television series like Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has passed away aged 60.
The comedic improv actor succumbed at his home in Los Angeles this Monday after undergoing cancer treatment from 2022 onward, according to media reports.
"Pat Finn considered no one a stranger - only friends he hadn't encountered," his loved ones shared in a announcement.
They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with zest and passion".
A Notable TV Career
His initial on-screen part was on a show starring George Wendt in 1995, where he played the titular character's brother.
He was also seen in a regular part on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.
He played the part of Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in 1998, depicting a party host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he made guest appearances on several popular shows, such as:
- The King of Queens
- Friends
- That '70s Show
- House, M.D.
His most famous role for portraying Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons of the show from 2011 to 2018.
His cinematic roles encompass "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).
Beyond the Screen
Beyond his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was an adjunct professor.
He was part of a comedy group of six called Beer Shark Mice.
"Finn taught, supported, and inspired countless students over the years and it would be difficult to find anyone who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.
Offering condolences, colleague and actor Richard Kind said there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, down to earth person you could encounter".
"Consistently upbeat, helping you be funnier and better. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote on social media.
The actor is survived by his wife Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
