Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a four games to three victory in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
